Geetal Shah is the latest owner. In her unwavering pursuit of the very best treatments available, she has spent much money and considerably more personal time in order to provide outstanding optical care.
To be clear, I’m firmly in the “I’d rather be at the dentist than have an eye examination” camp. At least a dentist can sedate you, and is unlikely to ever suggest you will lose forever the most valuable sense we possess. So, even one eye examination every two years, for me, is frankly too much.
Fortunately, InView Opticians are now changing my opinion. Efficient at taking a phone appointment, on arrival, Shriti Whadhia at the reception desk is always friendly and ready for a chat – those jangling nerves calming in the process.
Geetal herself is equally talkative, making the examination as much about conversation as medical checks. Rightly proud of the business she has created, the equipment she has purchased and the tests she can carry out are incredibly impressive... and far more to the point, exceptionally reassuring to one with eyesight as peculiar as mine. Better still, her explanations of each test and the results are clear and useful.
To cap it all, as an independent company, far removed from the vagaries of high-street chains and internet manufacturers, you get personal service and a selection of lenses crafted by the very best – not the famous, not the most marketed – manufacturers. I’m delighted with my varifocals, which have to date lasted more than 2 years without problems.
You get what you pay for, and prices are of course higher than online. Difference is, the prescription and actual lenses are accurate, the quality and back-up service just as it was in “the old days.” Oh, and they even offer an annual “loyalty scheme” with substantial savings on tests, contacts and glasses in return for a very modest £5 monthly subscription payment."
